Ready for a change this fall?
Does anyone else feel like winter was FOREVER this year?
We are so ready for spring, and wanted to quickly update you on what is happening here at Echo during this blissful season!
This month, May, we are excited to offer a FREE SUNLESS TAN (yes, for real, FREE) with any service (limit one per guest). Why this awesomeness, you ask? We love this service and know that a lot of our guests are hesitant to spend their hard earned cash on something they’re not so sure about. We want you to experience our awesome NO-ORANGE, custom Aviva sunless tans for yourself. The product we use is amazing because it is alcohol-free, fragrance-free, and oil-free, which means the only affect it will have on your skin is to add an amazing glow.
We recommend exfoliating and not moisturizing before experiencing this service, wear loose-fitting, dark clothing (to avoid stains), and prepare yourself to wait 8 hours for the tan to fully develop. If you have more questions, or you want to schedule one and try it for yourself, call us or shoot us an email at email@example.com.
On Saturday, June 1, we are excited to be hosting a Spring Pop-Up Shop, featuring a few hand-selected local artists and boutiques, who will be setting up mini-shops in our salon! From 3-6pm we will have goods and food from Oswald West Vintage Goods, Lennon and Willow Boutique, Loominously, SheActive Boutique, Sweet Nectar Shop, Fox Naturals, and Squibb Coffee. Erin Dickson Photo will be photographing the event. We are hoping to build the community with this fun, social event and enhance ties with other locally owned businesses, and we hope you can make it. Please RSVP on our Facebook event page here.
Our beloved R+Co has been changing a lot of formulas (for the better, of course) and adding a ton of fun products to their lineup. The changes in formulas have come with shampoos and conditioners, and because of this shift, we have several of the older versions on sale! Gemstone Color (better lather and color protection!), Bel Air Smoothing (coming soon with anti-oxidant complex!), and Dallas (coming soon and adding Biotin!) are some of the most recent upgrades. Tinsel Oil is being replaced along with Continental Glossing Wax.
New to the lineup are many of our favorites in travel size, along with Dark Waves Fragrance Gel, Magic Wand Brow Gel, and Sand Castle Texture Creme. We know there’s a TON of products in this line, and that’s why your can trust us to match your hair with what it needs!
This spring is going to rock! Thanks for reading and as always, if you want to chat, please give us a call, shoot us an email, comment on this post, DM us on insta or FB. We have open communication lines and we want to be your source for amazing hair! <3
Bachelorette parties are special celebrations. After all, how often do you have the chance to get together with all of your girlfriends in this busy day and age? Not only are these events super fun, but they're also commemorative of a major milestone in your life. Escape rooms offer an interactive way to enjoy your bachelorette party. If you're unfamiliar with these destinations, they're real life puzzles within a themed room with a time limit. They test your problem solving skills with varying levels of difficulty. There are multiple options to choose from in the area such as The Great Escape Room, The Ruse Escape Rooms, Escape Michigan, and Locked 460. Check out their websites and see if a particular theme resonates with you!
Paint and Wine
Paint and wine destinations are very popular additions to bachelorette party schedules. Even if you're not the most artistically gifted person, you'll have a lot of fun creating something with a local artist guiding the way. It's all step by step, so it's a lot easier than you might think! Plus, with the addition of your favorite drink, it makes the whole process run a lot smoother! Grand Rapids is one of the top destinations for beer in the state of Michigan. Whether you want to embark on a tour to see the process behind brewing or you simply want to relax and enjoy the beer in a tap room, there are so many high quality options to consider like Brewery Vivant, Founders, Thornapple, and Jolly Pumpkin.
Remember, your mode of transportation is important for a bachelorette party, especially if you plan on drinking. Instead of cramming into a new Uber every time your group wants to change destinations, reserve a form of professional transportation such as a Michigan Car Service or party bus service. Taking this step is the perfect way to introduce convenience, style, and fun to your event.
The trip to Florida was much needed, spending your days swimming and soaking up the sun- but now, you’re back in Grand Rapids and noticing your hair is totally out of whack! What’s going on? Let our hair doctors diagnose your condition and get you back on track.
Is your hair…
Dry? Brittle? A struggle to brush?
It sounds like your hair had too much sea salt exposure. Salt is good in small amounts so long as your hair is still being moisturized. Too much salt removes moisture from the hair and leaves it unmanageable.
At-Home Treatment: R+Co Palm Springs Pre-Shampoo Treatment Mask. This weekly at home treatment is full of oils and butters to deep condition your locks and leave them softer and shinier than before your vacation.
In-Salon Treatment: We also offer the Palm Springs Pre-Shampoo Treatment Mask as an add-on to your cut or color. Moroccanoil also has three different conditioning treatments that can pin-point issues that you're dealing with in your hair.
Too much sun exposure can cause your hair to lose it’s ashy hue, essentially sun bleaching it. This over exposure can also cause hair to become dry and weak without the proper UV protection.
At-Home Treatment: R+Co Sunset Blvd Blonde Shampoo and Conditioner. This daily purple shampoo maintains neutral/ashy blondes without causing them to look too violet. This amazing shampoo/conditioner combo is formulated with ingredients that provide UV protection and aloe leaf extract to seal in moisture and smooth out any brittleness.
In-Salon Treatment: Glaze and a trim. The glaze will fill in your hair's "potholes", add shine and moisture, and get the tone back to normal, while the trim will help to stop your ends from splitting.
Experiencing Breakage? Green Hue?
Swimming in pools without proper protection allows chlorine and hard minerals to penetrate the hair cuticle, causing the hair to appear green as well as causing dryness and breakage.
At-Home Treatment: R+Co Acid Wash Apple Cider Vinegar Cleansing Rinse. This rinse treatment gently removes buildup without stripping your hair of the natural oils it needs. As a shampoo alternative, it can be used as often as needed to remove GR hard water buildup as well, always leaving your hair soft and shiny.
In-Salon Treatment: A Malibu treatment will completely remove build-up from the hair, but also leave it feeling soft and supple.
This past week, we partnered together with a few wonderful local wedding vendors to create a styled photoshoot that showcased our work and let us stretch our creative wings!
It was a lovely March day for a photoshoot- we decided to stay indoors, of course, and started the day at Echo for hair and makeup. Kristi and I tackled the hair for our three models and Ash took care of the makeup. The theme of our day was romantic and whimsical, and I feel like we hit the nail on the head with this idea.
Ash used our professional airbrush makeup to create flawless skin on each of the models and kept the look very natural and pretty, with pastels, gold tones, and fluttery lashes. She also tried out some new lip glosses that we're experimenting with from Grande Cosmetics. We loved the way they hydrated and plumped the lips while leaving a soft color.
Kristi worked on an intricate, soft updo on Ray that made her look like a goddess! She used braids and curls to add volume and depth to the updo.
I used Hani's natural texture to create a faux-hawk style that created a divine shape. I did dutch braids up the sides and back and left her bangs out to compliment her face shape.
I created a loopy, soft braid for Emma that showed off her awesome balayage color and played up the boho style of her dress.
I love when we can collaborate together with other local artists who are truly passionate about their crafts. It inspires us all and makes our city an even better place to be!
We took the time to search far + wide for the perfect professional product line to bring in to Echo that would best support your hair's needs, our stylists' thirst for education, and our mission. We finally found the perfect blend of all of those things in R+Co (short for Rogue and Company- how cool is that!)
This amazing professional hair care line was developed by three hair stylists with a mission to provide the very best for our stylists and guests in quality, ingredients, and price (yes, a professional brand that actually cares about cost!). The three founders all specialize in different avenues of the hair industry- one as a salon owner and men's grooming specialist, one as a fashion/runway stylist, and one an editorial stylist (for magazines, ads, etc.)
Although this is a young brand, it is making waves in the world of hair and fashion!
Here's a few cool things that we especially love about R+Co:
Packaging- To lower costs and look amazing, the pictures on the packaging are taken by the people who work for R+Co corporate, and even though it looks amazing, the packaging itself is very basic to keep costs low. Almost every bottle is recyclable. Each product is designed to invoke a feeling, place, style or attitude.
Unisex- All products are made for men or women. The scents are not feminine or masculine, they're just good.
Cost- Almost every product is under $30.
Travel Friendly- Many of our products come in travel size, and if it doesn't, we will help you find one that will work just as well!
Ingredient Conscious- They take out all the junk and leave us with the good stuff! No parabens, sulfates, mineral oil or petrolatum. They're also all vegetarian, cruelty-free, gluten-free, and color/ chemical safe.
Scent- All of the products have a common citrus base, so they can be mixed and layered and will never conflict with one another.
Ease of Use- The products were designed without "rules". Many of them can be used on wet or dry hair for different things. They can be layered for stronger staying power. They're basically fool-proof!
Education and Support- R+Co supports the stylists in their salons with great education and product specialists who are able to answer any questions we have.
Salon Exclusivity- R+Co is against diversion (selling the product from anyone but salons and their direct website). Because of this, they can put more into the salons they work with and the products they develop.
SO MANY THINGS! I could go on and on, but the best thing to do is see for yourself. Come pick up some new R+Co products today and refresh your hair and your style.
Winter. Brrr. Just saying the word makes me shiver. But alas, winter is coming! Here's a quick update on what's on trend for hair color this chilly season.
Echo Salon is a pillar of the Grand Rapids Heartside Business District. In our 18 year history, we have gone through a few changes- mostly for the better. Changes can be challenging, but with the right attitude and attention to detail, we believe they can be good. So today, we are announcing that after eight years of ownership and working full-time as a hairstylist, Brandi Rinehart decided to hand over the reigns of ownership to Melissa Looman.
